About Reykjavik

Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is a port city on the coast of the Faxaflöi Gulf, in the south of the small island country. Iceland is located at the farthest point of the North Atlantic Region and Reykjavik is the closest capital to the polar region on Earth. The city hosts arich diversity of geographical features; fjords, peninsulas, straits, and glaciers.

Reykjavik, one of the most important fishing centers in the world, has half of the Icelandic population. Its ranks among the cleanest, greenest, and safest cities in the world. Iceland is a country with rich geothermal energy resources and environmentally friendly energy production methods, thanks to being located on a volcanic island. Reykjavik, which has a very cold climate, is the business and cultural center of the island.

Reykjavik, which hosts the "Northern Lights Tour", attracts tourists from all over the world. This magical light dance, which is the result of the interaction of the Earth's magnetic field with sunlight-charged particles, occurs mostly at the end of February and early March. Northern Lights is the biggest tourist draw, but visitors also come to see the Tjörnin, Videy and Grotta islands, Hallgrimskirkja Church, the Imagine Peace Tower, Perlan, Reykjavik Museum, National Museum of Iceland, Abear Museum, Golden Circle and Volcano House are the other main tourist attractions.  Iceland benefits from the Gulf Stream, a sub-polar climate effect that makes countries at high longitudes liveable thanks to hot water currents.  However, winter months are very cold, and even the summer months are mild. Reykjavik Airport is 2 km from the city center.
