About Tegel Airport

Tegel Airport is one of the two airports offering service in Berlin, the capital of Germany. Tegel Airport, which is known as the main international airport of the city, welcomes more than 20 million passengers every year. The airport, which was built in 1948 for the use of the military aircrafts belonging to the German army, has experienced various changes for performing domestic and international flights since 1960. Tegel Airport, where flights to the major cities of the world especially the European metropolises are organized with its five terminal buildings, is planned to be closed gradually by 2018 with the opening of Berlin Brandenburg Airport which is under construction.

Getting to the City Center from Tegel Airport

Serving both international and domestic air travel, Tegel Airport is located 8 km from the city center. You can get to the city center from Tegel Airport by taxi, bus, rental cars, or personal car.

Taxi

The easiest transportation alternative to get to the city center is by taxi. Taxis charge based on the kilometers traveled. While taxis can be a bit pricey they have the advantage of being a faster and very comfortable mode of transportation. Taxis are always available at the airport and provide quick transportation to the city. Taxis are accessible from Terminal A, Terminal C, and Terminal E.

Bus

Another method of transportation that you can use to get to the city center is by bus. Buses are a more affordable option and they go to many locations in the city center. You can get on the normal or express buses, which are operated by the BVG (Berlin Transport Services), from Terminal A or Terminal B at the airport.

Train

There is no railway station at the airport. There are buses that go to the nearest stations, 5-10 minutes away, from which you can connect to other trains that reach the city center and the Berlin Train Station, which is located 30 minutes from the airport.  

Rental Cars

One of the fastest and most convenient ways to get to the city center is by renting a car. You can rent a car at Tegel Airport from the rental car offices located in Terminal E or the P2 parking area. Rental car companies that you can choose from include Avis, Enterprise, Budget, National, Alamo, Europcar, Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, Sixt and Buchbinder.

Tegel Airport is located 8 km from the city center. The airport is accessible through by taxi, bus, rental car, or personal car. The airport has parking lots where you can park if you opt to driving your personal car.
