About Turgutreis

Turgutreis welcomes most oft the visitors among the other districts of the Bodrum peninsula in Muğla. Back in the days it was known as 'Kara Toprak'. In 1972 it was named Turgutreis in honour of the Ottoman admiral Turgut Reis, who was from Kara Toprak. It's believed that the history of Turgutreis goes back to the era of the Leleges; therefore it also has lots of beautiful historic buildings. In Turgutreis there are accommodation alternatives for every budget, so you can spend an economical holiday. The region is dominated by both Mediterranean and Aegean climates and you can visit it in all the four seasons; but if you want it to be more tranquil we recommend you to go between April and November. Due to its proximity to Muğla's other touristy areas, minibuses are departing from the center of Turgureis to the surrounding districts.

The bazaar, which is set up on Saturdays, is very famous in Turgutreis and there are also a number of other affordable souvenir shops. In Turgutreis you can start your day with a wonderful turkish village breakfast and then explore the historical neighborhood. We recommend you to first visit the coves of Akyarlar and Fener, the Kadıkalesi and Roma Kilisesi (eng.: Roman Church). Then you can visit Bodrum and the surrounding districts. You can have a pleasant time by attending the International Classical Music Festival organized by D-Marin in Turgutreis. Turgutreis is 53 km away from Milas Bodrum Airport and can also be reached by bus from the center of Bodrum, which is 19 km away. From the Milas Bodrum airport you can reach Turgutreis by bus or directly by taxi.
