Tripoli, also known as Trablusşam, is located in Shimal, a province in Lebanon. It is also the center of this province as well as it is the second largest city. The capital Beirut is the most ideal center for the air transportation in Tripoli. Rene Mouawad Air Base is approximately 40 minutes away from Tripoli city center; however, Rafic Hariri International Airport is more convenient for international flights. This airport is located only 89 kilometers away from Tripoli city center. Flights between Istanbul and Beirut take about 1 hour 45 minutes.
