Silifke, which located on the banks of the Göksu River and is a district in Mersin, has a wonderful location between Taurus Mountains and Mediterranean Sea. The first civilization that settled in Silifke having fertile land was the Ionians. Silifke was entered into the domination of Alexandre the Great. Later, this land was ruled by the Karamanids, Byzantines, Seljuks and Ottomans respectively. Each civilization left its own traces on this land. One of the most important tourist attractions in Silifke is the area that turned into a monument by carving rock shaped figures (“Adam Kayalar”) located on the southern slopes of the Taurus Mountains. Being one of the most important work of Roman period, Silifke Castle is situated on a hill overlooking the district. Water cisterns, water storages and castle ruins still continue their existence.
