About Santiago

Santiago is the capital and largest city of Chile. With a population of over 5 million, 10 million when including the surrounding area, it is one of the largest cities in South America. First founded in 1541 by Spanish colonialists, it has had a long and eventful history for the last 460 years.

Santiago has a dry climate, with a large difference between summer and winter temperatures. The city is bordered by the And Mountains and Mapocho River. Because of this mountainous location the city can become quite cold in the wintertime.

Places to see in this historic and bustling city include the San Francisco Church, the San Lucia Hill, Mapocho River, And Mountains, and the presidential palace La Moneda.
