About Ramsau am dachstein

One of the most beautiful holiday municipalities of Austria, Ramsau am Dachstein is a 18 kilometre long, 4 kilometre wide plateau, like a balcony 1000-1300 metres above sea level. The municipality is right at the heart of the Austrian Alps, in Styria. The plateau is divided into 4 areas. Every season in Ramsau am Dachstein brings its own beauty to the landscape. There are many things that distinguish this holiday destination including breath-taking mountain views, fresh clean mountain air, and the valleys that are sometimes lush green sometimes snow white. Ramsau am Dachstein is preferred as one of the best locations not only for skiing but for other alternative snow sports. Mountain cabins, marked hiking trials, and 220 kilometres of skiing tracks with 13 different circuits provide ideal conditions for both amateur and professional sport enthusiasts. It’s possible to ski even in summertime at the highest part of Dachstein which was included to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997. With its farms and churches in the shadow of the glacier of Dachstein, the municipality offers some impressive views.

Along with the possibility to climb Dachstein, which is the most eastern glacier of the Alps and 2700 metres above sea, and the facilities that provide training for the Northern European teams in the autumn months, the municipality is home to such a magnificent panorama that it could be described as a ‘palace of snow’. The culture and history of the sunniest ski centre in Austria are just as impressive as its beautiful sports facilities. The municipality arranges local festivals in the spring and autumn. Its history also goes as far back as the Bronze Age, and it also became the biggest Protestant region of Austria in the 16th century. Ramsau am Dachstein was most well known when it hosted the Nordic World Skiing Championship in 1999. You can learn about the history of Ramsau am Dachstein by visiting the Zeitroas Museum. The closest airport to the Skiing Centre is Salzburg and the transfer takes around 1 hour.
