About Midrand

Midrand is a city located in the Johannesburg region of South Africa's Gauteng state. Midrand, one of the eight tourism routes in Johannesburg, is also one of the cities with developed textile and motor vehicles industries. Being an economic center and close to major highway links make Gauteng an important city. Despite being a business center along the motorway between Sandton and Centurion, the city is also popular as a resort with its tranquil surroundings.

It is divided into many local regions such as Midrand Halfway Hause, Pretoria, Carlswald, Blue Hill, Glenferness, Crowthorne, Glen Austin, Halfway Hause and so on, and each region comes forward with different characteristics. For example, while Carlwald is known for its modern houses and shopping centers, Blue Hill, Crowthorne and Glenferness, a bit further away, are composed of non-urbanized quiet areas. The old rustic houses you will see in these regions represent the general atmosphere of the country and the traditional horse riding still exists.

One of the most popular locations in the city is Kyalami. The world famous grand prix racetrack is located here. The area consisting of motor and karting tracks is used for the leading motor races in South Africa. Glen Austin Bird Paradise in Midrand, a city nestled in natural life, hosts many rare birds, while the wildlife of Africa can be observed in the small-scale zoo.

Gallegher Estate, the largest conference and exhibition center in South Africa, and Nizamiye Mosque, the largest mosque in the Southern hemisphere, are located in Midrand. This Turkish-built mosque, built with an architecture inspired by 16th century dated Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, is attracting attention with its four large minarets, over 200 stained glass windows and 21 hand-painted domes. The complex within the mosque hosts schools, clinics, bookshops, carpenters and restaurants.

St. Sergius Russian Orthodox Church, a new building built in 2003, is a magnificent example of traditional Russian architecture. The church, which was designed similar to the cathedral in Kremlin, Moscow, has five golden domes. Mall Of Africa, one of Africa's largest shopping complexes, is one of the significant places in Midrand region.

The closest airport you can use to get to the city of Midrand in South Africa is the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. You can reach Midrand by renting a car or by taxi bus from the airport which is 45 kilometers away from the city.
