About Kostanay
Kostanay, which is the most important industrial, cultural and arts city in northern Kazakhstan, is located on the banks of the Tobol River. It is the capital of the namesake state. The city was first established in 1879 as 'Nikolaevsk'. In 1893, it named as 'Kostanay' in 1997 after it gained the 'city' status.
Kostanay means "Kazakh Tribe's accommodation" in Kazakh language. The urban economy is based on agriculture and industrial production.
