About Saarbruecken

Saarbrücken is the capital and largest city of Saarland, with a population of 180,000. The city is located on the south-western part of Germany, next to the French border. The most practical and cheapest way to get to the city is by regional city buses. Since the distance between the airport and the city is so short, it takes a maximum of 25 minutes. There are many different bus lines that provide transportation to the city center from Saarbrücken Airport. Bus line 16 provides transportation from the airport to the railway station that is close to the city center. Bus line 16 runs every 15 to 20 minutes Monday through Friday, taking you directly to the Quai 9 platform of the Gare Centrale main railway station. You can get to Saarbrücken city center within 25 minutes. Since it is a city bus you can purchase the ticket directly from the driver. The latest fare for a one-way ticket was 1.50 euros. Bus 27 also provides transportation between Saarbrücken Airport and Brebach.

The R10 regional bus runs once per hour and takes about 28 to 30 minutes to get to the city center. The fare for a one-way ticket on the R10 bus is 2.30 euros. You can purchase tickets from the SaarBahn automated ticket machines at the airport or onboard from the driver. Taxis are a convenient way to get to the city center from the airport. Taxis are readily available at the terminal exit. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get to the city via taxi and costs about 35 euros.
